Spinning Proton

A spinning proton generates a magnetic field, called its magnetic moment. This magnetic moment (B) resembles that of a small bar magnet.

An odd number of protons in the nucleus creates a nuclear spin. The nuclear spin will generates a small magnetic field called the magnetic moment. Visualizing the magnetic moment as a small bar magnet will help understand better what is occuring at the atomic level.
