Choeung Ek – This is the National Memorial site for
the killing fields. A recommended place to visit. Upon arrival, when we
paid the entrance fee, we received our headsets and audio players.
Which allow us to do a self-guided tour around the site. It is a very
well-done, a good approach, allowing visitors to stroll along at our own
pace and quietly walked on site.
Tuol Sleng Museum
Tuol Sleng Museum – We visited the Tuol Seng Museum
after Choeung Ek. We took a half-day tour as recommended by the Hotel
owner. At this museum, we were able to see the hard living conditions of
the prison and how the prisoners were cruelly tortured. We got the
chance to see a few of the ex-prisoners of this prison.

Central Market
Central Market -Lots of interesting seafood and all types of merchandises are available at the Central Market.
Russian Market – It is a popular market for both
the locals and tourists. which you can shop for clothes, souvenirs,
jewellery, gemstones, local food and produce. It is always very fun and
interesting to visit the wet market section, which I got to see the wide
selection of seafood and meat.
Local Cambodian Food
Cambodia local restaurant
A recommended local restaurant with huge signboard. Serving delicious and cheap food and drinks.
Squid with green pepper
Fresh Squid With Green Pepper. One of best dishes I
tasted in Cambodia. The squids are super fresh and the the pepper adds a
subtle peppery sweet and spiciness taste. Beautiful.
Stir fried Beef with Ants & Herbs
Stir Fried Beef with Ants & Herbs. dish is
interesting to try. the herb taste is a bit too strong for my liking. I
can hear the little crunchiness of eating the big and small ants.
Angkor Beer
Angkor Beer. Favourite local Cambodian Beer. Very
cheap. Just US$0.50 cent for a glass of draft beer. US 1.80 per jug at a
local restaurant. ( Please note: this is the cheapest price, most
places will sell at a bit higher than what I have indicated here)
Beef Lok Lak
Lok Lak – One of the popular local dish in Cambodia, which has a sweet savoury taste which can be of beef, chicken or pork.
Fresh crab with green pepper
Fresh Crabs With Green Pepper is also another great dish to order. Crabs in Cambodia are generally small. but always taste fresh and sweet! Love it.
Fried fish on the fire lake
Fried Fish On The Fire Lake is very interesting. It
comes with a huge fried fish poured over with light flavour curry sauce,
with a side of vegetable like cauliflower and cabbage that you can add
in to cook on the hot plate. Noodles is also served along with this
dish.
Fish Amok
Fish Amok is a Must-Try dish in Cambodia. There is
nothing like it. Not in Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore. The above does
not look very appetising. The one I tried in Siem Reap was super
delicious. It is made with coconut milk and the local spices like
Lemongrass, Tumeric, Galangal, Lime leaves, Amok leaves. It can be fish,
chicken or pork.
Tuk Tuk
Tuk Tuk is the most common transport available in Cambodia. It cost about US$2-$3 for short distance.

Angkor Archaeological Park
A nice view view in the Angkor Archaeological Park
Nice rice fields planted by the local family in the village
Cute little boy at a local Village in Angkor Archaeological Park. This was taken when I took the
KKO Cycling tour. Do join the tour if you enjoy and like cycling. It is a great way to see the less touristy site of Angkor Wat with a cause.
Baguette Sandwich
Baguette Sandwich. A popular local breakfast from
the street stall. The filling are ham and pork bits with some local
sauce. It comes with a light salad too. You can order half instead of
ordering one whole baguette. The baguette is really tasty.
Entrance to the South Gate of Angkor Thom
Angkor Thom is one of the popular starting point to get into the Bayon Temple
Banteay Kdei
Banteay Kdei is built in a similar style to Ta Prohm but much smaller scale.
Banteay Srei
Banteay Srei is a very popular site, which is very crowded with
tourists. It is built with rose-pink sandstone. Something very different
from the other temples. The carving on the temple are very precise and
delicate.
Kbal Spean
Interesting carving on the rock that you can see after climbing up 1.5 km in the wood.
Angkor Wat
Angkor Wat, the best time to visit is about 2pm when the sun is
shining up the temple that you can take great picture. Visiting it in
the afternoon is also better with lesser crowd as compared to going in
the morning.
There are 1 day pass, 3 day pass and 7 day pass to the Angkor Wat Archaeological Park.
The most recommended pass to take is 3 day pass, when you can take
your time to visit sites and places ate a comfortable pace, including
Banteay Srei and Kbal Spean on a separate day. You can also try various
transport like taking a Tuk Tuk and cycling to see the sites.
It is also recommended to have tour guide to go with you to explain
the details, background, history and meaning of the many interesting
carvings.
Entrance of Angkor Wat
Old Market in Siem Reap
Stall at Old Market
Old Market is a great place to shop for souvenirs, nice cotton clothes, silk and cotton scarf.
Kroma is the local name for the scarf in Cambodia which can be used
in many ways. For example the local uses it to protect their head or
neck from the sun, to carry items, to wipe away their perspiration from
working in the farm. There are many lovely and nice design which makes a
very suitable gifts and souvenirs for friends and loved ones.
